The Model 'A' Ford
Club of Great Britain was formed in 1987 by a group of a dozen or
so enthusiasts.
It may be more appropriate
to say that it was re-formed because there had been a Model 'A'
Club in existence in the UK from the late 1960's. That original
club was called the Rose of England Club. It was a Chapter of the
parent club MAFCA but, unfortunately, it did not really grow in
membership throughout the 1970's in line with the explosion of interest
in vintage and classic cars and the club folded in 1982.
A hard-core of enthusiasts
remained active with their cars and, under the initiative of Roger
Phillipo, a fresh club now called the Model 'A' Ford Club of Great
Britain was set up in 1987.
This club has flourished
and currently has just under 300 members with probably around 750
Model 'A's in its many variants between them.
After a period of isolation,
it has resettled as a chapter of MAFCA and is endeavouring to ensure
good contacts globally with all other lovers of Model 'A's and their
clubs.
The club regards its
home membership as coming from England, Wales, Scotland, all of
Ireland, and the Channel Islands. It is well served with used and
repro parts suppliers, with highly experienced technical advice,
and with a club newsletter, events, regalia, and publications.
Webmasters note: I
would like to thank Neville Jones for supplying the information
about the Model 'A' Ford Club of Great Britain, and if you read
the Bert Thomas Story it will tell you how the Rose of England Club
was formed.
